Introduction:

The 2007-2008 school year included a variety of accomplishments for the district, teachers, and individual students.  The efforts of these individuals of the Greensburg Salem School District are apparent in the accomplishments outlined here. 

OVERALL DISTRICT RECOGNITIONS

  • For the second year in a row, students in the Greensburg Salem School District are the biggest overachievers, when comparing academic achievement with their economic background.  When compared to Western Pennsylvania Schools, GSSD was ranked 1st by the Pittsburgh Business Times among 105 schools for overachievement.  The District was ranked 2nd among 498 Pennsylvania Schools for overachievement.  When comparing student achievement as measured by the PSSA, our district was ranked 13th overall in western Pennsylvania and has been in the top 10% of all schools in the state over the past five years. 
  • The Greensburg Salem School District was recognized by the PA Department of Education for meeting AYP (Annual Yearly Progress).  This determination is made based upon the PSSA results, graduation rates, and attendance rates.
  • In The U.S. News and World Reports a nationwide public high school ranking recognized Greensburg Salem High School with a bronze rating.  The criteria used for selection were: performance levels on state math and reading tests that exceed expectations based on poverty level, proficiency rates for minorities and economically disadvantaged students.
  • Greensburg Salem School District was identified as 1st of 67 Pennsylvania school districts  to meet the "Absolute Standard" which identifies districts that currently achieve far above state performance standards.
